Soul Fro (Quincy Fouse): I Know

Quincy Fouse, known as Soul Fro in his musical endeavours recently released music video for his single ‘I Know’. The video follows the story of finding love and building romance in the midst of the chaos of life. We talk to the musician about creating the music video for ‘I Know’.

The ‘I Know’ music video intertwines scenes alongside a love interest, with scenes depicting Fouse as an astronaut.
Can you talk about building the process of blending two different worlds and settings and filtering them into one storyline?
This process never started at two separate points to blend, believe it or not. I called Barry Galperin (Creator and Director of the ‘I Know’ music video) to work with me on this video because I knew he’d understand the message which centers around the feelings of being so sure in how lost in love you are with someone… and actually being physically lost… while looking for something.

How did that idea come about?
The creative mind of Barry Galperin. I gave him the concept of the feelings I wanted juxtaposed yet living at once, and his vision captured that so spot on. Shooting was a breeze because I was able to be so honest with the material. Making the song, shooting the video — the same message was expressed.

How was the process of refining it and honing in on details with a crew and a team of creatives?
What was it like to pitch that idea to your co-star in the video?
I was blessed with a team that actually liked my music! *laughs* So much so they naturally came to me with a passionate red and yellow color pallet for the video and those are my favorite colors! Bringing on Lexi Stevenson happened the same way. She’s someone I could trust to lend her passion to my baby and she was genuinely excited to do it, which made me excited to work with her. The on camera chemistry speaks for itself!

What was it like to use your knowledge and experience in acting in your own project?
Honestly, it was such a game changer. I’ve spent so much time learning from being on set, so when it came to putting my own projects together the gears run smoothly, effectively and quickly!
The inclusion of the astronaut scenes reminded me of showing the idea of love and being invested in someone as like you’re in another world. Can you talk about why you wanted to include such a crafty and also direct representation of that idea?
As much as I want to leave it up to you guys to figure out, I’ll share this: It’s funny how two people can be in the same place, sharing physicality even, but be clueless about one another’s intentions. Even funnier is the actions we find ourselves resorting to in such situations.

How do you think the video added more spirit to the song?
I don’t think the video gave the song ‘more’ spirit. Spirit’s infinite. The video just gave you another experience to get there. I do see value in experiencing art authentically through different mediums though – more to cherish!

What can we expect next from your musical endeavours?
How will video and acting play a part in that?
I have a couple of singles to release and I’m coming into work on my next album ‘Son of the Ronin’.
My goal hasn’t been just music though. Creating and putting out content are steps that I take to love myself through expression. When I enter that process in an environment like the industry, I’m able to provide for myself and found my future family. All my efforts are playing a part in many things that all benefit each other in many ways. I’m simply maintaining a Constant Ascension with Infinite Compassion.
