COTERIE: Where We Began

New Island Records signing COTERIE have released their new single ‘Where We Began’. The Perth four-piece dissect the shattering consequences of a broken, unrepairable relationship. The four-piece’s oscillation between low, driving and higher, heart-wrenching vocals add another dimension to how life altering heartbreak may be. 

The single “is a true story, one of tragic love and everything in between”, says lead singer Tyler. A song that transcends beyond the surface of a break-up, the group wrote it “after a friend called, ready to meet his end, consumed by the pain of his heartbreak”. 

COTERIE don’t shy away from shedding light on the gravity of love and its effect on mental health. The track, written hours after helping a friend by “talking him down from that ledge”, allowed Tyler to wear “his hurt, take it to [his] brothers and pour it into this song”. 

Accompanying the single is an emotional music video. The video narrates the electricity in a relationship fizzling out, as a young man grapples with and accepts the the breakdown of a relationship.
