Thelma Plum: Not Angry Anymore

For fans of Thelma Plum, patience is key. But as they say, patience brings sweet rewards. That reward is Plum’s ‘Not Angry Anymore’; her second single from her forthcoming album. The reward certainly is sweet to say the least, as the Gamilaraay singer exudes a refreshing purity and peace her in voice as she sings, ‘I’m Not Angry Anymore (no, no, no).’

Whilst she could have easily opted for a more salacious, antagonising break-up song, Thelma Plum sculpts a mature, healed and forgiving persona through her lyrics. She holds herself accountable, acknowledging her flaws and the ‘two-way street’ nature of relationships. Plum outwardly expresses, ‘I’m not perfect, I’m still learning how to stop and let it go.’ Plum’s healthy self-awareness appears as she reflects on the the three minute gem. Thelma says of the track ‘Not Angry Anymore is about healing, forgiveness and understanding that we aren’t always in control of everyone’s actions and we can only take responsibility for our own happiness – though sometimes that process can be a long and difficult one’.

Thelma Plum triumphs in this latest record. Weaving in quirky, yet light and delicate pop beats with an airiness and charm to her vocals both signify her journey of letting go and cleansing herself from the past. We see Plum from a new, revitalised lens. She gracefully and courteously addresses her past singing, ‘for the time it was the best. I thank you for the rest, I hope you find it.’ Her treasure of a track is tied together wisely; she never lets arrangements and sounds of the track overpower the sentiment of the lyrics, allowing listeners to fully revere in her eloquence as a vocalist and lyricist.

Plum continues to effortlessly hone into her individuality with a carefree, loose visual. Plum recruits Claudia Dallimore for the video, adding “I am so lucky to have a great working relationship with the amazing Claudia Dalimore. She found the most beautiful old, dilapidated house that was planning on being demolished and we went wild in there creating our own little world for a weekend”. Dalimore, known for her exceptional collaboration with Australian female musicians on ’Her Sound, Her Story’, once again nails the female Aussie musician collaboration, describing the world they created to be “based around a cathartic release of emotions through colour, destruction and creating a beautiful mess”.
