Dom Youdan: Is Your Lover Still Cool

5 Things you didn’t know about Dom Youdan

I’m a Hong Konger.
I grew up in Hong Kong and love the city with all my heart. Getting on Star Ferry is like travelling back in time. Sadly, I’ve lost my very limited mandarin vocabulary as I’ve gotten older, but I try to get back when I can. If all you think all Hong Kong has to offer is air conditioned shopping districts, I’d recommend taking a walk on the streets, soaking in some of that unforgivable humidity and catching a tram or two.

I think Andrea Bocelli is a fucking god.  
Off the top of my head my dad listened to The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, The Police, Fleetwood Mac’s ‘Rumours’ (because hey, who doesn’t) and Andrea Bocelli. I could always sing a little bit growing up and whenever I heard Bocelli, I’d be in awe. The emotion in his voice is simply insane as is the way he dances across a melody. Don’t get me started on the vibrato. Personal fave would have to be Melodrama. It’s a beast.
 

I make people buy things.
When I’m not spending all my money following an impossible dream I like to make people buy things through the power…of advertising. When it comes to ad-world, I’m much more a creative writer than a composer (though I do dabble) and I’ve been fortunate to work on some pretty epic projects. I’ve also been commissioned to write a top secret TV show, which I’m very pumped about. Would love to tell you more but you know…top secret.

I don’t like star signs.
I try really hard to give ‘star sign people’ the benefit of the doubt, but it’s just so…damn…hard. The other day I was waiting in line and I heard someone bitching about a girl to their friend, to which her response was, ‘well, what else would you expect from a Leo?’ Then they both just concurred, like it was fact. HOW CAN YOUR STAR SIGN QUALIFY AS AN EXCUSE FOR BEHAVIOUR. Although what do I know, I’m a Capricorn.

I believe Marmite and Vegemite can co-exist.
You’re very limited when it comes to choosing a Yeast Extract spreadable. You have Marmite and you have Vegemite (plus some others that don’t deserve a mention). If you like one, surely you will like the other. After all, there are both Yeast Extracts. But no, it seems as though we have to vehemently hate one and take a side. This is the problem with politics in spreadable form. We must learn to love both Marmite and Vegemite. We do that first, then we can go and fix the world.
