Kita Alexander recounts whirlwind struggle on ‘Against The Water’

Kita Alexander unearths her deeply candid and vulnerable single Against The Water. Alexander’s honest track is frank as it tells the tale of braving hardship, and tussling between the demands of life, and loved ones.

Against The Water is one of my most honest songs,” says the artist who shoots from the heart. “I’m speaking from the same place as ‘Hotel’, my other traumatic song, but that had more imagery in it, more storytelling. With this one, it’s quite scary in its word for word honesty.”

The track forlorn of hope is an extension of the evocative, personal geared sound Kita Alexander distilled into Hotel, once again recounting her struggles and relationships with those most important to her. Kita recalls, “when Owen and I first got together, it was an intense kind of love. Even while we were going through all this shit so early on, we still loved each other, and no one really could understand it. We had a lot of family members being like, ‘You don’t have to do this, Kita,” or, ‘Owen, you don’t have to be with her. You guys are still fresh.’”

Written alongside Eg White, and produced by Josh Fountain, Kita allows her airy vocal to cascade, sharing “I’m more willing to go with the flow of the song these days”.
