Oly Sherman: Three Oh Three
Oly Sherman releases brand new EP ‘Three Oh Three’. The six-track EP features Sherman’s signature folk rasp as he translates his most momentous, significant life experiences into song. Each track is layered with simmering vocals, sleek sounds and emotional, piercing lyricism.
In celebration of the EP, stemming from strange, vulnerable moments in Sherman’s life, he shares with us a list of track inspiring ‘Three Oh Three’. You can stream ‘Three Oh Three’ here.
Heaven Up There – Palace
“One of my favourite bands going around at the moment, this track is all about that build-up. A super inspirational track when creating ‘Three Oh Three’”.
Dead Boys – Sam Fender
“I’ve only just recently started listening to Sam’s music, but this song in particular stood out to me because of its hard hitting, guitar ending. I took a lot from this specifically when making the tracks ‘Noir’ and ‘Three Oh Three’.”
Disappearing – The War On Drugs
“Probably one of my favourite ‘zone out’ tracks, this song really set the tone for me when writing ‘Noir’, as I wanted to create a track that was relevant, but also something that could be played in the background.”
What Can I Do If The Fire Goes Out? – Gang Of Youths
“Big track this one from the Aussie lads. Fast paced, and a nice produced finish is something I also tried emulating throughout the making of the EP”.
A Gathering On 57th – The Paper Kites
“Can safely say that this little song was on repeat when I first heard it. As corny as it sounds, I find it simply beautiful. Had a big impact on me when writing the first few tracks on the EP”.
Nica Libres At Dusk – Ben Howard
“Not a song that has any physical correlation to the songs on my EP, but a song I was definitely listening to a lot when writing the EP. Has a really nice movement and is a song you can’t really fault”.
Shallow Water – Wild Nothing
“Really like this band and in particular this song for its washy, surf-garage guitars. They blend together really nicely, and something I’ve taken accustomed to when writing the EP”.
Midnight In Harlem – Tedeschi Trucks Band
“A classic of mine, have always liked these guitar solos as they show off an amazing set of guitar knowledge, but pull back at the best times. Crucial song for me when writing ‘Pain Free Melody’”.
Wrong Faces – Kalpa
“A nice little rock jam. This one stuck in my head for a while, and gave me random spurts of energy. Really nice listening too in-between studio sessions.”
Anything – Catfish And The Bottlemen
“Another big song from the English lads. I tried to take some of this energy within the ending and last build up of ‘Three Oh Three’. But of course, I wouldn’t be able to do it justice!”.
