Tuka: F*ck You Pay Me

Thundamentals Tuka releases his first solo track in four years with ‘F*ck You Pay Me’. On his newest piece of solo material Tuka flaunts his mastery of rap. In the lyrically playful, yet sonically dramatic track, Tuka describes his “relationship with money as an artist in the rap/hip hop industry”.

His breezy, effortless rapping style can be traced back to the essence of his rap’s meaning. “I’m basically taking the piss out of myself, I’ve always been unsettled by the need or want for money in others, it’s never been my drive so I couldn’t relate”, Tuka explains.

‘F*ck You Pay Me’ sees Tuka’s reemergence come with an added confidence as an artist and as an experimenter, allowing him with “an excuse to rap”. The loud track, filled with substance and observation on society sees Tuka channeling “the aggression/desperation that [he] sees money bring out in our society”. To him, he believes “people feel trapped by not having money, and wanted to write an anthem to empower them”.

Tuka’s return appears inspired and focused on creating a new groundbreaking element to rap. “I’ve been inspired by the next generation of Australian rappers that are paving the way for the culture in terms for raw skill and delivery, pushing wordplay and lyricism to the forefront. It’s really refreshing and it made me want to flex my roots in rap again but also challenge myself over something more current”, says Tuka.
